The opportunity
We have opportunities for two Weekend Library Assistants to join our friendly Library Services teams at Chelsea College of Arts and London College of Communication (LCC) on a part time, term time basis.
As a member of the Library Services team, you will contribute to the development and delivery of high quality and student-focused library services which support the academic activities of the University.
Working collaboratively, you will promote and enable access to resources, collections and services and participate in both front-line and administrative duties. You will assist users with initial information enquiries in person and online using our live chat service ASK. This includes helping with the use of the library catalogue and materials, dealing with account queries, and supporting students with general purpose software.
In addition to this you will:
Provide support for self-issue systems, IT and printing.
Participate in stock-related duties such as retrieving and circulating items.
Help maintain and care for our collections as needed.
Assist with the production of promotional material and instructional guides to encourage students’ independent learning.
Keep the library in good order and participate in shelving activities in accordance with best health and safety practice and security guidelines.
Work Schedule
You will work during designated weeks of the year, providing cover at other UAL libraries as and when required. Please indicate in your application if you have a preference for one of the following roles:
Position 1: Chelsea College Library, Part Time, Term Time, 0.23 FTE
Saturdays: 9.5 hours, 9:45 AM to 20:15 PM (with a one-hour unpaid lunch break)
Position 2: LCC Library, Part Time, Term Time, 0.45 FTE
Saturdays and Sundays: 9.5 hours each day, 9:45 AM to 20:15 PM (with a one-hour unpaid lunch break)
About you
We are looking for individuals with a compassionate, student-centred approach, with the ability to convey information and ideas clearly and inclusively.
You will possess relevant experience in a library or customer service environment, and formal training or education to post 16 level.
You will also be able to work independently, have excellent written and oral communication skills and be IT literate. Working flexibly within in a team, you will deliver a positive and responsive customer focused service and provide assistance and cover where needed.
