The Opportunity
As a Childcare Trainer at Barnsley College, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our learners, helping them develop the practical skills, confidence, and expertise needed to thrive in the childcare and health sectors. In this role, you will manage a caseload of learners, organising workplace assessment visits and meetings with employers to ensure that students are fully supported throughout their qualification journey.
You will also be responsible for interviewing and recruiting learners onto the programme, ensuring they meet the necessary criteria. In addition, you will be actively involved in finding suitable work placements for students and developing strong links with local employers to create meaningful learning opportunities. As part of your role, you will produce and monitor individual learning plans for students, contributing to their updates to ensure they remain on track to achieve their goals.
A key aspect of your role will be conducting work-based assessments and internal verification, ensuring they meet the requirements set by the Awarding Body. You will also develop appropriate work-based assessment materials to ensure learners are given the tools they need to succeed. Additionally, you will deliver practical skills sessions, helping students maximise their learning, while providing individual guidance and support. Where appropriate, you will refer learners to specialist agencies to address their individual needs.
Throughout your work, you will focus on developing the next generation of skilled childcare professionals. By working closely with employers, you will ensure students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world settings, while ensuring they meet the high standards required for their qualifications. About You
We’re seeking someone who is passionate about education and dedicated to helping our learners build the practical skills and confidence they need to succeed in the childcare and health sectors. With a Level 3 or higher qualification in childcare or health, you’ll bring the necessary expertise to guide our learners effectively throughout their qualification journey.
Organisational skills are key in this role, as you’ll manage a caseload of learners, balancing assessment visits, learner updates, and work placement planning. Your ability to communicate clearly and build strong relationships with students, employers, and colleagues will be essential to providing effective support.
Experience in internal verification and assessment will enable you to maintain high standards while supporting learners to reach their full potential. Your proactive approach and problem-solving skills will help overcome challenges and ensure learners have access to valuable work placements and opportunities.

Required
· Level 3 qualification in a relevant field
· GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent Level 2)
· Assessor Awards (or willingness to work towards)
