Working within the Project Commercial Team, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in providing essential commercial support throughout the lifecycle of projects – from initial proposal and budget development to final account handover.

Job Description
In this position, you will assist in identifying and mitigating commercial risks to ensure successful project delivery while also working to identify and maximise commercial opportunities that contribute to margin growth.
You will help develop budgets and proposals that balance value for the client with achieving the team’s margin targets.
A critical aspect of the role involves supporting efforts to meet cash flow targets by securing funding post-approval and certifying completed project works.
You will also contribute to protecting and enhancing original contractual margins during the delivery phase and effectively managing the final account phase to align with the client’s capitalisation targets.
Your responsibilities will include regularly reviewing and challenging costs against project plans to ensure robust commercial management.
Additionally, you will assist in preparing commercial reports for key stakeholders, both internally and for the client, providing valuable insights and updates.

Key Responsibilities
Conduct scoping work and assist Senior QSs with valuations
Price work, estimate costs, and handle contract negotiations (upstream and downstream)
Focus on contract execution, reporting, and administrative tasks, including paperwork and Excel
Minimal on-site measurements; primary focus on office-based activities
Candidate with a QS degree or working towards one
Strong understanding of construction principles
Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications
Experience in the building maintenance industry, ideally in banking, corporate, or commercial office environments
Experience managing construction contracts up to £10m
Proven ability to oversee projects from Concept to Full Design Stage, ensuring best value for both client and company
Skilled in estimating project costs and presenting high-quality tender documents
Proficient in software applications like AUTOCAD, Intellect (accounts), MS Office Suite (including MS Project), and PDA/mobile applications
Educated to BSc level or equivalent, or working towards a qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Procurement
Strong technical expertise and qualifications in Commercial disciplines
Knowledge of Pre-Construction procedures, including Procurement, Planning, and Contracts
Demonstrated record of improving margins and accelerating cash during project delivery
Strong presentation and negotiation skills
