This role is responsible for all aspects of Bupa UK Insurance’s hospital and service line networks, and the quality, experience and cost of services provided to customers. The role holder will design, develop and implement the strategy and provide ongoing management of the network driving improvements so that our members have access to the best possible care at a cost that is affordable today and in the future.
How you’ll help us make health happen:
- Responsible for all aspects of the hospital and service line networks, driving improvements to ensure our members have access to the best quality care and experience, and ensuring that services offer good value for money.
- Commercial and contractual management of c.600 contracts covering £1.3bn of claims spend per annum.
- Lead the design, implementation and management of the hospital and service line networks to support delivery of Bupa’s UK Insurance strategy and Annual Operating Plan.
- Define and ensure adherence to criteria for recognition of hospitals in network.
- Design provider tariffs, reimbursement models and target price points for providers, reviewing and updating systematically to reflect changes in the market and in clinical practice.
- Lead and oversee the design and execution of contract negotiations with hospitals and other key providers, supporting negotiations with strategic providers.
- Lead on working with hospitals to achieving Bupa’s ambition to be Net Zero by 2040 via Scope 3 emissions generated by care delivery, developing and implementing robust contracting mechanisms and the monitoring of and adherence to Bupa mandated scorecards.
- Responsible for developing plans with hospitals and facilities to identify and address key pain points for UKI customers improving In-Patient/ Day-Case NPS and Out-Patient NPS to support Bupa’s wider NPS ambition.
- Ensure robust contracts are in place with all providers and that terms are adhered to per the requirements of the network, whilst ensuring affordability of care and payment integrity over charges.
- Drive provider payment integrity through the effective deployment of contract structures, and communication of contract elements within the business.
- Oversee effective resolution of all provider disputes, ensuring that adequate provisions are held in the financial accounts, acting as an escalation point and keeping the Director of Provider Management appraised of issues and plans for resolution.
- Working with the Connected Care lead in Healthcare Development, to develop and communicate compelling points of differentiation for customers based on the healthcare we deliver and supporting sales, tender and promotional activities.
- Manage operating costs of the area ensuring these are in line with annual budget.
- As a member of the Provider Management Leadership Team, contribute to the development and delivery of our healthcare strategy, people engagement goals and achieving targeted outcomes across the function.
- Lead, manage and develop a high performing team (circa 30 individuals) to achieve targets and goals that involve hospital services.
Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:
- Demonstrates an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the Healthcare Industry.
- A capable leader who is a role model to others; energetic, positive attitude to work, collaborative approach, deep content knowledge.
- Experience of having operated at a senior level in a competitive business environment, developing strong relationships with senior stakeholders internally and in third party organisations.
- A strong track record of hiring, retaining, developing and motivating top-tier talent.
- A strong track record of coaching others to continuously build capability in team and grow leaders of the future.
- Highly analytical and commercial; works with complex data sets to identify trends, issues and opportunities and to model impact of solutions on customers and the business; comfortable quality checking work of others to ensure accuracy and drive quality of analysis.
- Systematic approach to managing large portfolio of projects with a track record of rapid and successful delivery of performance improvements in a challenging environment, working with third party providers.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, explaining complex issues clearly and concisely, presenting compelling arguments / proposals using fact based evidence and research, adapting style for maximum impact with audiences.
- Able to challenge constructively, resolve conflict / issues productively and hold Bupa position on critical issues.
- Extensive experience of planning and delivering negotiations with third parties to agree complex contracts, addressing conflicting priorities and securing favourable outcome.
- Forward looking, able to identify risks, issues, opportunities early and develop and then deliver effective solutions.
- Strong team player, focussed on delivering own objectives while enabling / supporting others to deliver theirs.
